Marsden Cove Marina, New Zealand
We’ve checked out of the country, filled with diesel and thrown off the dock lines. Arriving back in Whangarei only a week ago , we were thrilled to get a weather window to sail to Fiji so soon. Not ones to take anything mother nature offers for granted, we made quick work of getting Dragonfly provisioned and stowed over this past week.
As we leave New Zealand we’d like to give a special shout out to certain friends for their part in helping us get to this point. First, a special thanks to Brett & Linda on Sea Bee for watching out over Dragonfly during the austral winter while we were away in Idaho – your faithful checks on her kept her in great nick. Thank you to Ollie Maxwell for your troubleshooting and repair of our wing engine’s cooling blockage – now our backup engine is good to go (and we hope unnecessary…) Finally, a special shout out to our good friends Barb & Bruce for coming to see us off – your intrepid adventuring spirits continue to keep us in awe, and your friendship is one of the truly great hallmarks of our time cruising here in the South Pacific these last 14 years.
So off we are, bound for Fiji, with a planned stopover at Minerva Reef – spoiler photo above! You can track our progress here, which will update a couple times a day when we turn on our internet. We anticipate arriving in Minerva in 6 days, and may post along the way. Fingers crossed for this maiden blue water venture for Dragonfly!

Instead of fair winds and following seas, I’ll wish for no wind and no seas!! I’ll be tracking you!!
Wishing you a safe and uneventful passage! 😊
Happy maiden blue water voyage! Hope you have a great trip, which to me means uneventful to the point of boredom. Ditto to what Bill said!
